Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in strength within the urban setting.

Warning: Revealing details for the third episode of the new season are included.

The Warrior Group Introduced

Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of heroes who will separate from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

With a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might look mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.

The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and warns that it is a nasty location.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the group enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to head to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to assemble the Questers and Schemers parties.

Audiences can expect learning which players will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on October 24.
