Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his initial trophy for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid period, winning just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in particular - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial championship following the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface from March of the previous year.

Success also indicates the Russian has won 21 titles at 21 different tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my children together, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his past six title deciders, comprising in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had prompted commentators to wonder if his ability to play at the top level was over.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and perform positively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

Medvedev fought back from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, winning 4 of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players exchanged breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his first ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to create a final set.

Moutet saved 4 early opportunities in a close final set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched the title with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
